Metacaliper

Snapshots and monitoring

Know what changed, and get back to how it was.

Metacaliper keeps scheduled snapshots of each environment's metadata, reports changes made outside your releases, and rolls an environment back to any snapshot. Monitoring checks each environment on a schedule and flags risky setup and security changes.

Snapshots start on Solo. Change monitoring is on Business and above.

Snapshots of every environment

  • On demand, or on a schedule: daily, every 6 hours or hourly, as the plan allows.
  • Files stored once across snapshots, so each new one adds only what changed.
  • A notification when a scheduled snapshot finds changes made outside Metacaliper.
  • Compare two snapshots, or a snapshot with the environment now.
  • Download a snapshot as a zip.

Roll back to a snapshot

Rolling back runs as a comparison from the snapshot to the environment, followed by a deployment, so you see each change before it is made and can deploy only part of it.

Snapshots are kept for 30 days on Solo, 90 days on Team, a year on Business, and as agreed on Enterprise. The newest snapshot of each environment is always kept.

Change monitoring

On a schedule, monitoring reads the Setup Audit Trail and the security and configuration sources of each environment, and raises a flag when a rule matches: who made the change, when, why it matters, and a link to fix it in Salesforce.

  • Powerful access, object access, sharing defaults, single sign-on, integrations, logins, certificates, scheduled jobs and Security Health Check.
  • A baseline review of the risky settings that already exist, flagged once.
  • Acknowledge a flag with a reason, recorded in the audit log.
  • Flags exported to CSV, and sent to email, Slack, Microsoft Teams or a webhook.

Questions about snapshots and monitoring

What does a snapshot contain?

A snapshot is a copy of an environment’s metadata at one moment. You can leave metadata types out of a schedule. Files are stored once across snapshots, so a new snapshot uses storage only for what changed.

How often can snapshots run?

Daily on Solo and Team, every 6 hours on Business, and hourly on Enterprise. A snapshot can also be taken at any time.

Does Metacaliper back up Salesforce data records?

No. Snapshots hold metadata, the configuration and code of an environment, not records such as accounts or opportunities.

What does change monitoring check?

Each run reads the Setup Audit Trail and security and configuration sources, such as powerful access, sharing defaults, single sign-on, integrations, logins, certificates and Security Health Check, and raises a flag when one of its rules matches. Monitoring is included in Business and above.
